Rock Band

Crestwood Rock Band – For campers entering grades 3-7

This summer, children can become a part of the fun and be in Crestwood’s Camper “Rock Band”.  We are looking for musicians and singers.  Depending on the instrument, your child may bring it to camp or Crestwood may be able to provide the instrument.  Our Music Director, Bruce Katz, will be directing the Crestwood Rock Band program.  Bruce is a K-8 music teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience including Chorus, Band, private voice and instrument lessons. For Musical Beginners in grades 1-7, Bruce will be offering intro group lessons on keyboards, guitar and drums.  If your child is interested, please contact Bruce directly at BKATZ91548@AOL.COM or contact our office and we will have Bruce call you.

Please contact Bruce or our office by Thursday, July 6th, so we can get this band rockin’ right away.  Rehearsals and/or Lessons will take place throughout the camp season during the regular camp hours. Campers will miss regular group activities to participate in this special program. This is a free Crestwood Club for any interested Crestwood campers.

CRESTWOOD & THE RACE HUB STEM PROGRAM

Crestwood is proud to announce that we will be collaborating with the Race Hub located in Syosset to bring a new STEM CLUB option to Crestwood Campers.

At Crestwood, instructors from the RACE HUB will work with those Crestwood campers who join the club (entering 2nd grade through 6th grade) on some of the following engaging experiences:

  • TECH LAB – workshop using coding and sensors
  • SCIENCE LAB – hands on science experiment
  • ELECTRONIC LAB – circuitry
  • ROBOTICS LAB – Robotics Fundamentals
  • ENGINEERING – Design and Build

Classes will take place on Wednesdays starting July 5th.  Classes will last one hour (double period).  We will do our best to schedule campers based around their schedule (swim and lunch).  Space is limited and will be accommodated on a first come first serve basis.  This is a free pull-out club for Crestwood campers, but campers will miss regular group activities.

If your child is interested, please contact your Division Head by the end of the day on Thursday, June 29th to be included in the first session on July 5th.

CHESS CLUB @ Crestwood Camp – 1st – 7th Graders

  • All levels are welcome including those who have never played before.
  • Campers attend for one period each based on their group schedule.
  • Meets Mondays (except the first session will be Friday, June 30th)

  • Future sessions will be Mondays beginning July 10th.
  • Campers may join the club later in the summer.

Important Transportation Information for Campers on Buses

“DRY RUN” – Monday, June 19th

Crestwood bus counselors and drivers have started to practice bus routes this week to get ready for pick-ups on the first day of camp plus introduce themselves to you and your child. Generally, they will not call beforehand to set up a time. If you are not home when they stop by, they will leave an introductory letter in your mailbox with the route number and estimated pick-up time.  It will also include their name and phone number.

This summer, all of our bus drivers and bus counselors (with a few exceptions) will be doing a “dry run” on Monday, June 19th that will begin at approximately 10:30 AM.  We will be instructing the buses to stop at every house along the route, ring the bell and drop off their introductory letter.  Unfortunately, there is no way to give out any specific times that the bus may arrive at your house as the bus drivers and counselors will still be making route adjustments as they go through the day plus spending time at each house speaking to parents and campers.  The whole process can take several hours. Please do not feel compelled to wait at home as bus counselors will call anyone they do not meet and if necessary set up a new day and time to meet your family.

If you do not hear from your driver or bus counselor by Thursday, June 22nd or have any other questions, please call Jordan or Jaime, in our Transportation Department, at (631) 692-6361.

JUNIOR DAY CAMPERS: Your child will be assigned to a different 2:30 PM bus route and a bus counselor/driver who will also contact you. Typically, they will try to stop by after school hours when your child is home. They will follow up with a phone call, but you can contact them directly to set up another time to meet.

Camp Drama Show Announcement

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!
The Crestwood Drama program is happy to be back again in full swing!

This summer we’re excited to be diving into the ocean with some of our favorite friends in Disney’s Find Nemo Jr! Join Marlin and Dory as they travel across the ocean meeting hundreds of new fish in order to find Marlin’s son Nemo. With music from the great composing team of Frozen and Frozen 2 we are so excited to be sharing this great family story and the message that anyone can do anything they set their mind to.

The Crestwood Drama performance takes place during week 7 of camp and is open to campers going into 2nd grade through 6th grade. Auditions will take place during the first week of camp (EVERYONE GETS A PART!).  In addition, Crestwood also offers a show for campers to perform in during our fourth week of the summer, called Crestwood’s Got Talent.  This is a performing arts variety show with musical numbers, dance and acting performances.

If your child has an interest, please inform your Division Head or Group Leader (when assigned) or your child may sign up when the opportunity is offered to his/her group at camp.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Jared, our drama director at Crestwooddrama@gmail.com

TREVOR ALBERTS-PEARSON (Music Director) – Trevor (or Mr. Trevor as he is known) has been the music teacher at Crestwood’s school since 2020. Trevor also knows many of the Crestwood campers through his work at Take A Bow, the musical theater playhouse located in Plainview, where he is the Assistant Manager & Sr. Voice and Acting Instructor. After many summers working at the local JCC camp, we are excited to have Trevor join the Crestwood camp staff.  Trevor obtained his Associates Degree in music from Suffolk County Community College then continued on to SUNY Fredonia where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in 2018.
